Ready to reserve your spot?

To reserve your spot in the 5-Day Hybrid WFR course, please follow these steps. This helps us get everything we need to send you what you'll need to be successful in the course ... without advertising this amazing discount rate to the general public on my main courses page :)

1.  Text Katie Woods at 304-400-7840 to make sure there is still spot in the course.  Please include your name, your company, and your email address. She'll text back ASAP (or at a minimum, respect "first-text received, first-served".

2. Once it's confirmed there's space in the course, you'll send $150 deposit to the
Barefoot Wild Med business Venmo. Katie will send the link in the text back, but it's
here again if you need it, or you can use the QR code. If Venmo doesn't work, we'll
figure something else out, no worries.

3. Once deposit is received, your seat is saved! Be on the lookout for emails with information on how to enroll in Moodle to get started on your pre-course work. The remainder of the course cost is due the first day of class.

Hybrid 5-Day
Wilderness first responder

Join Katie Woods and Joe Thacker for a Hybrid 5-Day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course. The certification lasts 3 years and is granted by Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA). We've specifically scheduled this course around Gauley weekends for you... and us! This course is OPEN to any industry employees. There will also be a WFR refresher held the last three days that's open to the general public (for general public prices) with a discount rate for guides in just for Gauley.  So, reserve your seat and spread the word!

There is a mandatory, self-directed, online portion that MUST be completed, in full, prior to the first day of class. Click here or scroll down to learn more.

Space is limited, first-come, first-served. A $150 deposit holds your spot. There is a $10 discount if you pay the rest of the course cost (after deposit) with cash or check. Deposits are non-refundable, but can be transferred to another Barefoot Wild Med class at a later date.

More logistics info to come but here's the gist:

Dates:

  • September 21 (Wednesday)

  • September 22 (Thursday)

  • September 27 (Tuesday)

  • September 28 (Wednesday)

  • September 29 (Thursday)

Time: 8am - 6pm each day with a break for lunch

Location: ACE Adventure Resort

How much: The total price for industry employees for the WFR course is $479 and the WFR recert is $239. Again, $10 off the total price if you pay remainder with cash or check. These courses are significantly discounted from the price the general public would pay. We've been there and know what you do, how busy you are... and how much you make.

Bottom line: We appreciate ya and want to pay it forward as we can. Our goal is to build a "one team" mentality as far as on-river medical rescue goes. We don't care what boat you drive. We want you to be on the same page with knowing this stuff so you can better help each other out there.

For general questions, comments, or concerns contact Katie Woods at: katie@barefootwildmed.com or text 304-400-7840.

Things to know before committing to the Hybrid course:

There is a mandatory, self-directed, online portion required to be completed before the first day of class. Expect a minimum of 30 hours... You will NOT be prepared to participate in the course without completing this work prior and will NOT receive a cert. (The WFR cert is a minimum 70 hours... This hybrid opportunity allows you to only come in person for 5 days -- full in-person WFRs are usually 8+ days). Katie and Joe reserve the right to not let you participate in class if your coursework is incomplete (but please, don't make us be bad cop, okay?)

This screenshot shows a breakdown of the online portion (might be really hard to see on a mobile device, even though it will open in a new window... sorry... but Katie can send a bigger one in email... just ask: katie@barefootwildmed.com
